The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori - REVIEW

        THE SWEETEST OBLIVION REVIEW

          Author: Danielle Lori  Note: 3,8

She’s a romantic at heart, living in the most unromantic of worlds . . .

Nicknamed Sweet Abelli for her docile nature, Elena smiles on cue and has a charming response for everything. She’s the favored daughter, the perfect mafia principessa . . . or was.

Now, all she can see in the mirror’s reflection is blood staining her hands like crimson paint.

They say first impressions are everything . . .

In the murky waters of New York’s underworld, Elena’s sister is arranged to marry Nicolas Russo. A Made Man, a boss, a cheat—even measured against mafia standards. His reputation stretches far and wide and is darker than his black suits and ties. After his and Elena’s first encounter ends with an accidental glare on her part, she realizes he’s just as rude as he is handsome.

She doesn’t like the man or anything he stands for, though that doesn’t stop her heart from pattering like rain against glass when he’s near, nor the shiver that ghosts down her spine at the sound of his voice.

And he’s always near. Telling her what to do. Making her feel hotter than any future brother-in-law should. Elena may be the Sweet Abelli on the outside, but she’s beginning to learn she has a taste for the darkness, for rough hands, cigarettes, and whiskey-colored eyes. Having already escaped one scandal, however, she can hardly afford to be swept up in another.

Besides, even if he were hers, everyone knows you don’t fall in love with a Made Man . . . right?

This is a standalone forbidden romance.

BOOK REVIEW

This is my second chance reading The Sweetest Oblivion, the first time I tried to read the book I got really annoyed with the synopsis and the first pages but recently seeing so many indications of it in my Instagram account I decided to give it another chance. I was quite surprised during my reading, Nico won me over from the first contact and made me get into this story for good, Elena is a great character even if she isn't the type that wins me over in other books and that surprised me, Danielle knows how to write secondary characters like no one else, there wasn't a character that didn't win me over or that didn't make me want more of them, I can speak especially of Tony, Benito, Luca and Dominic, I hope more of them in the other books. Besides being a quick and easy read and not a bit shocking the reading is very funny and sensual, every time nonna, Celia and Adriana appeared it was a lot of laughs that came from me and I loved every moment, the sexual tension between Nico and Elena is surreal all the provocations of the two from the beginning to the end leave you ecstatic and excited for both of them. Now let's go to the points that I think should be improved or were left to be desired, the first thing is that I expected a little more action and blood coming from the environment they live in, it was very light in this aspect and that may even be the idea but this is what it promises in the first pages where it is mentioned what they do and live, second, I missed a lot an epilogue and a passing of the story for a few months and lastly being one of the things that bothered me the most was the description of Oscar when he is presented by Elena to the readers, the way he is described was a bit xenophobic and racist, I'm not saying that was the author's intention for goodness sake, and if it was you should rethink it, he is described as a lighter colombian that Elena has ever met and that for some reason she resented his blonde and handsome appearance, as a latin woman this made me feel like it was offensive and in bad taste. The next book features Gianna as the protagonist and I hope to like it even though I'm not looking forward to it. My rating is 3.8 ⭐.
